Lagniappe Day 2018!

Something extra. That's what Lagniappe Day is all about. This UL Lafayette tradition is one of the longest occurring and most-treasured events we have! Each spring, students take a break from studying with fun activities including canoe races across Cypress Lake, our annual lake jump (since 1977), and the biggest crawfish boil around (over 20,000 pounds)!

Lagniappe Day 2018 takes place on Friday, April 13, at the Student Union, Cypress Lake, and on Boucher Street.
2018 Planned Events include:

10 a.m.-12 p.m. - Canoe through Cypress Lake

Students will have the opportunity to take a quick paddle through the swamp and enjoy the view from inside!

11 a.m.-2 p.m. - Crawfish Boil

Join UPC for the biggest crawfish boil of the season with 20,000+ pounds of crawfish!

12:00 p.m. - Annual Lake Jump

Each year a student jumps feet-first into the murky waters of Cypress Lake as part of Lagniappe Day, a tradition started by long-time lake jumper Philip Beridon in 1977. The spirit of the legend lives on!

12:45 p.m. - Canoe Races

Teams of 4-6 people will race for the title of canoe race champion. Just watch out for the alligators!

2:00 p.m. - Jalapeño Eating Contest

Test your limits in our jalapeño eating contest! The student who eats the most jalapeños in one minute gets a basket of Lagniappe prizes (and a biiiig glass of milk)!

All activities accompanied by live music from Magic Crawfish!
