CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF LAGNIAPPE

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Lagniappe Week festivities.  Lagniappe Day originated in 1974 when the USL basketball team was put on suspension for two years by the NCAA.  The Dean of Students, Raymond Blanco thought the event would boost the student's spirit.  The student body rallied around the Lagniappe festivities and the celebration continued after the NCAA suspension was lifted.

Traditionally, Lagniappe Day is held on the last Thursday of April, which falls during spring break this year.  Therefore Lagniappe Week will be celebrated April 28-30, 2014.  Lagniappe Day is Wednesday April 30, with crawfish and jambalaya being served as the evening meal and students will be treated to entertainment by Rockin' Dopsie.  Lagniappe Day will be held at Blackham Coliseum.

On Lagniappe day, students with meal plans get in free with valid UL id.  Students, faculty and staff without meal plans can purchase tickets for $7 (general public $10)  at the Student Union Information Desk, located on the second floor of Vermilion Hall.
